Project: Energy-saving weatherization and window replacement
Partners: Bank of America, John Hancock Financial, City of Boston, New England Regional Council of Carpenters, Wal-Mart
Date: December 12, 2008

Neighborhood Housewarming 2008 was YouthBuild Boston's eighth annual effort to weatherize the homes of elderly and disabled, low-income Boston residents. This year more than 170 volunteers braved cold, soggy conditions to weatherize more than 900 windows and doors in 80+ homes. Bank of America and John Hancock Financial were the lead sponsors, and provided the bulk of volunteer labor. Local Carpenters' Unions also sent out support to help volunteers and YouthBuild Boston students install 42 brand new replacement windows for three lucky homeowners. The City of Boston also supported the effort, supplying weatherization kits to get the job done. Wal-Mart donated ENERGY STAR light bulbs to further boost residents' energy savings.
