UBuild

On November 1, 2007, an exciting new initiative kicked off in the city of Boston.  This year-long project, 500 Women & YouthBuild, engages women across all sectors and walks of life to invest in Boston neighborhoods through construction and rehabilitation projects. The 500 Women & YouthBuild project is sponsored by John Hancock Financial Services and is be spearheaded by First Lady of the City of Boston Angela Menino and First Lady of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Diane Patrick.

This project is an outgrowth of an initiative created by John Hancock that included the First Ladies as well as other Boston women civic leaders and teenage girls to help rebuild New Orleans.  As a result of participating in this life-defining trip, the women to return to Boston empowered with a renewed commitment to building and strengthening Boston’s neighborhoods as well; thus 500 Women & YouthBuild was conceived.

Given John Hancock Financial’s longstanding work and that of its parent company, Manulife, in rebuilding communities, Hancock is the major sponsor of this effort. The company was instrumental in partnering with YouthBuild Boston, an award-winning nonprofit dedicated to developing job skills. YouthBuild Boston’s work aligns well with John Hancock’s mission of creating jobs for young people and developing positive programming for youth.
